Located in Pittsburgh’s Lawrenceville neighborhood, the Hatfield Residence transforms an existing urban home through the selective demolition, reconstruction and 3rd story addition. A contemporary addition reorganizes and expands the residence while preserving the value and embodied history of the original structure. The design creates stronger connections between interior and exterior living through a new rooftop terrace and a private rear patio, extending the home into a sequence of open-air spaces at multiple levels. Together, the intervention brings new light, spatial flexibility, and a distinct architectural identity to the approximately 2,200-square-foot residence while responding to the constrained scale and density of its neighborhood context.
