The Broad Street Residence transforms and expands an existing home on a compact urban parcel in Pittsburgh’s Garfield neighborhood. The renovation and addition establish a contemporary 1,900-square-foot residence with three bedrooms and three bathrooms while maintaining the setback, scale, and street rhythm of the surrounding houses.

A restrained exterior composition pairs modern cladding with large operable windows that reinterpret the neighborhood’s traditional patterns of solid wall and punched openings. Inside, an open floor plan extends from front to rear, organizing the kitchen, dining, and living areas as a continuous space centered around a generous island. Windows on multiple exposures bring natural light deep into each floor and strengthen the home’s relationship to the site. An upgraded building envelope, new systems, hardwood floors, custom cabinetry, and carefully detailed bathrooms bring contemporary comfort and performance to the existing urban fabric.
